Advantages of Bifacial Solar Panels

Bifacial solar panels are now a trend in the solar industry. Most solar panels are single sided. This means that they have only one photovoltaic side, which absorbs the light from the sun and converts it into energy. Double-sided solar panels can absorb light from both sides and require less space. It can be very useful in some cases. As double-sided panels have a larger surface area to absorb sunlight, they have been shown to have better conversion efficiency. If the bifacial components are set vertically, they can capture energy at two peak times of the sun: sunrise and sunset. Vertically set panels are also more resistant to weather such as snow and sun, which can cover the faceplate and hinder some of its efficiency. The double-sided solar panel not only gets sunlight from the front but also from the back. This increases the conversion efficiency of the solar energy and saves the occupied area. They are also more durable than conventional panels.

Features of Bifacial Solar Panels

Are Double-Sided Solar Panels Worth Investigating?

Double-sided solar panels may be worthwhile for commercial and utility solar developers, but they usually don't make much sense for residential rooftop projects. As the back side of the Bifacial solar panel does not meet the requirement to "minimise shadows" when installed on the roof and cannot absorb the energy from the back side, a traditional single-sided solar panel is more suitable for domestic roofs.
